Dr. Said Bin Khamis Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) issued Decision No. 404/2012 on July 18, 2012 ; banning the marketing and distribution of melamine dishes manufactured in Taiwan; for containing a substance called formaldehyde resin which has been proven recently that it is harmful to the health.


Article (2) in the Decision states that all quantities of the mentioned product shall be withdrawn from all markets in the Sultanate, to maintain and protect the public health. Article (3) in this Decision states that whoever violates the terms of this decision shall be punished based on Article (21) of the Consumer Protection Law.

 

This Decision came as pursuant to the Royal Decree No. 26/2011  establishing the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, Royal Decree No. 53/2011 issuing the Public Authority for Consumer Protection regulations, the Consumer Protection Law issued under Royal Decree No. 81 /2002, Decision No. 49 / 2007 Implementing Instrument for Consumer Protection Law, and the Letter dated July 09, 2012from Department of Specifications and Standards in the Directorate General of Commerce and Industry in Dhofar Governorate.
